Student and Parent Testimonials
My son, Jonathan, was excited to begin karate and KI of Lewisville last August. His enjoyment continues. The enthusiastic instructors at KI promote achievement and self-esteem through a series of well defined and attainable goals. Students are encouraged to apply this same desire to achieve and excel in school and all aspects of their lives. Karate has been a very positive experience for Jonathan.

Brian started taking karate when he was three years old. It has been a great way for him to learn to follow directions from and show respect to different types of instructors-all while releasing energy. He has had the opportunity to watch young young men and women take on leadership roles and act as appropriate role models. He is frequently reminded not to fight. All that Brian has learned from karate will be useful in life.

When Keith first started with KI he was 9 years old. I thought he would get tired of it and drop out in a few months. That was 6 years ago. Over the past 6 years Keith has learned discipline, respect and self confidence. Keith has gone from a very hyper little boy who had a hard time controlling his actions and making friends to a self assured young man who can now stand in front of a crown of people and teach or give speeches. The environment that KI and Shane provides is one that helped Keith to grow into the confident young man he is today and that same environment is what will help him become the man and the leader he will be in the future.

It is amazing to see shy reserved people, regardless of age, become confident, disciplined, positive leaders. This is Karate International.

My son, Matthew, joined KI in 1998. He immediately fell in love with karate and made it his goal to become a black belt. He stuck with that goal and now is testing for his second degree black belt. He still maintains that same enthusiasm, energy, commitment and dedication. Matt has learned a lot about discipline and commitment. Karate has helped him find not only physical strengths but also a talent for teaching and leadership skills. His enjoyment for teaching has helped his self-esteem. I am very proud of Matthew and the accomplishments he has made at KI.

Lakynn joined KI in the fall of 2001. Beginning her first year of middle school was a challenge in itself. But as a member of KI she has built both confidence and strength. Karate has let her soul shine and let her grasp her goals fearlessly. I commend Master Williams who keeps the class focused and excited.

I am writing in recommendation of Shane Williams and Karate International of Lewisville. The Fulton Family YMCA has been in contract with Mr. Williams since March of 2002, and we have been very pleased with the level of service that our members have received. The instructors are always prompt, highly reliable, and are quite responsible with the children that they instruct. Additionally, Mr. Williams' organization teaches character building values such as honesty and respect that are well aligned with the YMCA's values.

Here are just a few testimonials from our students:
Shane Williams is one of the finest people I have ever met. Because his number one interest in life is karate, he is a sensei of the highest caliber. He never stops learning and perfecting his own martial arts skills, so he always has new lessons to teach his students, even black belts who have been with him for years! Yet his own great skill does not keep him from understanding the frustrations of the newest beginner in karate. He uses his great sense of humor to help both kids and adults persevere even when they think they can't. All of Shane's students know what he thinks about the word "can't"! In addition to being the best karate instructor who ever put on a pair of tennis shoes, Shane is an example of someone who has set goals for himself and worked hard to achieve them. In so many ways, he is a good example for children, teenagers and even adults. I personally have learned a great deal from him in life lessons and I attribute much of my teaching skill to what I have learned from him and others in KI. As often as his schedule allows, I invite him to speak to my high school students at North Forsyth about the value of school and learning, earning and saving money, and getting along with people. Shane is the kind of person kids will listen to, because they can tell that he has learned these lessons the hard way, and they sense his sincerity in wanting to help them.
Being a student of the martial arts and particularly of KI and Shane Williams has had a lasting impact on my life and made me a more peaceful and confident person. I will always remember the friends I have made through KI and the lessons I have learned.
My relationship with Karate International started when we were looking for a way to creatively channel the energy of our three-year-old son. I was amazed from the very first class with the way Shane interacted with the children and the fun they were having. He found a way to involve every child and really draw the parents into what was going on. In fact, he did such a good job of drawing in the parents that I decided to try taking classes myself. At first I felt silly, but it became a welcome release that I looked forward to all week. I never thought learning karate could be so fun or rewarding, but Shane finds a way to make everyone feel special while inspiring them to strive for their goals, in karate and in life. At the end of every class we place our hands right above left and salute out of class with a resounding “fight”. I am learning to do that every day, for the things I want, the things I believe in, the things that I hope to one day achieve and become. One day, I hope to gain the privilege of wearing a black belt, but until then, I am greatly looking forward to the challenge. The friends that I have made I hope will last a long time, the lessons I have learned will last forever.

I began karate as a way of doing something with my children that we would do and learn together, which was a difficult thing to find when you have three people as different as my son, daughter and I were at that time. There are so many 'family activities' where the parent is already knowledgeable, or the only the child has real interest. I wanted to do something where each of us had our strengths and weaknesses, but where all were learning and all working for the same goal. Training with Master Williams enabled this: we became a team, each of us helping the others as we reached for our next rank, we came to respect each other's strengths and learned to pull together around our weaknesses. However, the benefits of Karate went beyond my expectations for a family activity. It developed skills and attitudes in each of us as individuals. As my son began teaching karate, he learned patience and discernment . As my daughter competed in tournaments, she learned focus and determination. As I rose in rank I learned that even in middle age, far off goals could be realized. A warning though: Master Williams does not run a program where you succeed just by showing up. There is a lot of hard work, sweat, practice, and even bruises involved. But I can say from experience that you will get back much, much more than you put in.
